Practice

Robert Laur represents the parties who pay claims: insurance carriers, employers, and professional employer organizations. It is a deliberate choice. The work rewards preparation and patience more than it rewards volume, and it suits a lawyer who would rather know a file completely than know a hundred of them partially.

He earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in 2012 and his law degree from Stetson University College of Law in 2015. Since then he has practiced across the state, handling matters in venues from the Panhandle to South Florida.

Litigation philosophy

Cases are not usually won by an argument made at a hearing. They are won by what was gathered in the first sixty days — the records that were read closely, the defense that was preserved before it lapsed, the physician's opinion that was pinned down before it drifted.

That approach produces a specific kind of value for a client: options. A file that has been properly developed can be resolved on favorable terms because the evidence supports it, or tried because the evidence supports that instead. What a client should never have is a case where the only real option is to pay, because the work that would have created alternatives never got done.

The corollary is candor. An assessment that makes a client feel good and turns out to be wrong is worse than no assessment. Robert would rather deliver an unwelcome number early than a surprise late.
